John Calbick

PADI IDC Instructor

John Calbick grew up in Kalispell, MT.  As a child growing up watching Flipper and Llyod Bridge’s fight scenes in Sea Hunt, he knew he wanted to be in the water one day.  He just knew he would find treasures!  In 1969, when he was a freshman in High School, John began diving local freshwater lakes and was hooked.  He didn’t find those treasures, but he was able to catch his own dinner in McGregor Lake.  He was certified as a PADI International Open Water diver in 1976 in Iwakuni, Japan while serving in the Marine Corps.  John’s favorite place he has had the pleasure of diving countless times is Sharks Cove, a shore dive which is part of Pupukea Marine Sanctuary in Oahu, Hawaii.

Now 46 years later as an IDC Staff Instructor, being able to share the experience of diving with others is what keeps John’s love of the sport alive.  He enjoys meeting new people, sharing stories, and watching people conquer their fears through proper calm instruction.  Being an open water student opens so many doors and he and hopes all his students continue to dive the beautiful world that lives underwater.

Shannon Harris

PADI Insturctor

Shannon Harris is a true native to Cochise County, and her roots run deep.  She was born right here at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.  Growing up in Whetstone she always wanted to be a nurse.  When she graduated from Tombstone High School in 1982, she joined the Army to do just that.  She served in the Army in the medical field for 10 ½ years.  After her military service, she continued to serve Cochise County in the nursing field for 25 more years.

Shannon began diving on a whim.  It was mentioned to her in a conversation and her adventurous spirit told her she had to try it.  She completed her Open Water certification at Lake Pleasant near Phoenix.  Shannon admits she has test anxiety and was surprised how much easier the objectives were in the open water of the lake. Coming full circle, this was also where she completed her last dive to become a PADI Instructor in 2022!  Her favorite place to dive is San Pedro Island in San Carlos, Mexico, where it is an awe-inspiring experience to dive with sea lions. Coming from a life spent caring for people of all ages, Shannon has the expertise and calm understanding to help make your diving experience stress free.  She loves the opportunity to impart knowledge to someone and see the excitement on a student’s face when the training comes together and she see they are having fun!
